There are a choice of two different bus routes from Malaga to Orgiva where by arrangement you can be met.
Which one you choose will depend on your flight timing.
Remember you may choose one route for the outward journey and a different route for the return journey if you wish.
The choices are:
OPTION A (Direct Service) This is the most convenient option if you can book a flight arriving in the morning and a return flight leaving in the late afternoon. One direct bus a day (except Sundays). Leaves Malaga bus station at 3.00pm. If your flight arrives in the morning up to about 1pm this is the best option to choose. (Not Sundays) There is also one direct bus a day (not Sundays) from Orgiva at 8.15am to return you to Malaga bus station at 12.00 noon. Timetables in the BLUE box below. |
OPTION B (Indirect Service) This option involves one change but is more flexible in terms of matching up to flight timings. There are buses every day of the week from Malaga bus station to Granada bus station where you can then catch a bus to Orgiva. There are several every day. Timetables in the ORANGE box below. |
All the bus services mentioned above depart from Malaga bus station. So you will need to get from the Airport to the bus station.
You can easily do this by either catching the Airport shuttle bus or a train. Both methods are described here.
The number "A" airport shuttle bus from the airport will easily take you there. Here is how to catch it.
The cathedral scale new Terminal 3 building is now open at Malaga Airport and whichever gate your flight lands at you will now exit through it.
As you come out of the terminal onto the paved area into the outside air just walk straight ahead of you underneath the overhead building (see photo on left below). There directly in front of you at the pavement edge is the bus stop.

You want the number "A" bus, ask for Estacion de Autobuses. (say - Estathion de Owtoebuses). The "A" runs about every 35mins. Don't be tempted to get on the FREE bus that uses the stop, it's the wrong one!
Below is a photo of the bus times displayed on the bus stop (July 2010). The fare is 2 euros. Some drivers will not accept notes larger than 5 euros, so if you need change you might like to break into a larger note at the airport.
Now (2011) a direct rail link runs from Malaga Airport to the Bus Station and is a quick alternative to catching the "A" Shuttle above.
As you come out of the terminal onto the paved area walk straight ahead then follow the TREN (train) signs to the left into the smart new station.

You'll then need to travel the 3 stops from Aeropuerto to Maria Zambrano which is the stop for the coach station (and Malaga rail station).
Once at the bus station you will need to buy a ticket for a coach to either Orgiva or Granada depending on which of the two onward routes (detailed below) that you choose. Buy your ticket from the "ALSA" (name of bus company) window.
If you are getting the direct bus to Orgiva, look for the bus service destination Lanjaron (Orgiva is the town before Lanjaron)
Timetables for all journeys (correct Jan 2012) are reproduced below. To check if they are still current use this link .
There is plenty to look at en route either way, the direct service service goes along the coast (views of the Mediterranean and mountains), the indirect service goes inland (views of wide open spaces and mountains).
Once you get to Orgiva you can by pre arrangement be collected at the bus stop.
